About

Sofía Sánchez Borboa is an independent curator, researcher, and educator based in Mexico City. Her practice explores the ways exhibitions create relationships between images, objects, histories, and the people who encounter them. Through research-based projects, she examines how memory, storytelling, and forms of representation shape our understanding of identity, place, and collective experience.

She has held exhibition-making roles at the Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil in Mexico City, the Sullivan Galleries, and the Field Museum in Chicago. With over 20 independently curated exhibitions, her work considers the exhibition as a space for inquiry; one where narratives can be revisited, fragmented histories can emerge, and new forms of encounter can take place.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Art History from Centro de Cultura Casa Lamm and a master’s degree in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her writing practice includes Anyone Who Has Never Been Bored Cannot Be a Storyteller, a fragmentary narrative of Coyoacán, Mexico City, which explores memory, place, and the stories embedded within everyday life.
